The Comparison Desk

Every Bali property comparison, in one place.

Picking a market is a decision between specific tradeoffs. We break each comparison down to the dimensions that actually drive returns: entry cost, legal structure, yield, residency, and risk.

How our comparison framework is built

Every comparison article on this page works the same way. We start with a quick verdict in the first paragraph: which side wins for which use case. The comparison table covers five to seven dimensions that actually move investor outcomes – entry price, legal structure, yield, currency exposure, exit liquidity, residency benefits, and tax. Each dimension is sourced rather than asserted. The body then argues each side under both buyer profiles, so a reader evaluating Portugal Golden Visa and Bali leasehold gets cases for both before reaching the conclusion.

How to read these comparisons

Start with the quick verdict if you want a one-paragraph answer. Read the full comparison table if you are underwriting numbers. Read the body sections if you are making a strategic call about which market to enter at all. Each article ends with explicit ICP framing – the kind of investor each side suits – because no comparison answers "which is universally better." It answers "which is better for you, given what you are optimising for."

When you have outgrown the comparison page

The comparison articles are positioned for investors deciding between markets or between Bali areas. Once the market decision is made, the area-specific deep-dives, flagship project analyses, and the vetted marketplace shortlist carry the operational detail – comparable transactions, operator economics, and listing-level diligence. For a one-on-one conversation when you have a specific decision in front of you, book an editorial briefing with the desk.

How comparisons are refreshed

Each comparison article is reviewed every six months and refreshed when material data changes. The 2026 cycle has already added Da Nang as a Vietnam comparison anchor, revised the Tulum oversupply read, and updated the Portugal article to reflect the post-2023 Golden Visa reform. We tend to publish refreshed editions rather than back-edit the previous version, so readers can see how our position has evolved. The methodology page documents which sources feed which comparison and how we weigh competing data when sources disagree, which they sometimes do – Knight Frank and JLL Bali yields can differ by two percentage points for the same period and same corridor.
